Frequently asked questions about a 10-question test

What grade is 8 out of 10?

8 out of 10 is 80%, a B- on the standard plus/minus scale. 8/10 means 8 correct and 2 wrong. A school that uses a 10-point scale without plus or minus would call it a B.

What is 7/10 as a grade?

7 out of 10 is 70%, a C-, with 3 wrong, on the standard plus/minus scale.

What is 9/10 as a grade?

9 out of 10 is 90%, an A-, with 1 wrong, on the standard plus/minus scale.

What is 6/10 as a grade?

6 out of 10 is 60%, a D-, with 4 wrong, on the standard plus/minus scale.

How many questions can I miss on a 10-question test and still get an A?

You can miss up to 1 and still earn an A- (90%), or none for an A (93%). For a B (83%) the limit is up to 1, for a C (73%) it is up to 2, and to stay at a passing D- (60%) it is up to 4.

How much is each question worth on a 10-question test?

Each question is worth 10% of the grade, so every wrong answer lowers the score by 10 percentage points.

What score passes on a 10-question test?

At a 60% pass mark you need 6 correct, which is 60%, a D- on the plus/minus scale. One fewer (5 out of 10) is 50%, an F. Some schools set a higher pass mark such as 70%, which needs 7 correct.

Can I give half points on a 10-question test?

Yes. Open the half-point chart on this page, or use the calculator and switch it to half points. For example, 8.5 out of 10 is 85%, a B.

How do I print the 10-question chart?

Press Print / save as PDF above the chart. Only this chart is printed, and you can choose Save as PDF in the print window to get a file instead of paper.

What grading scale does this chart use?

The standard U.S. plus/minus scale: A at 93%, A- at 90%, B+ at 87%, B at 83%, B- at 80%, C+ at 77%, C at 73%, C- at 70%, D+ at 67%, D at 63% and D- at 60%. Schools set their own cutoffs, so if yours differ, read the percentage column and apply your own.
