Why this site exists
Grading arithmetic is simple, but it's easy to get wrong when you're tired, rushed or anxious. A teacher with thirty quizzes to mark wants to read a grade off a chart, not divide thirty times. A student the week before finals wants to know one number: what do I need on the exam?
So the aim is modest: put the answer in front of you as you type, show the working so you can check it, and be honest about what the result does and doesn't mean. Grading rules differ between schools and instructors, and we try to say so wherever it matters rather than pretend one scale fits everyone.

How we build the tools
- The answer comes first. Results update as you type, and the formula or a worked example sits nearby so you can see where the number came from.
- One set of grading rules. The calculators, charts and guides all draw their letter cutoffs and GPA values from the same code, so one page can't quietly disagree with another. The worked examples in the guides are calculated by that same code, not typed in by hand.
- Cutoffs apply to the exact score. A 89.6% is a B+, not an A-, because we don't round before checking the cutoff. We say so on the pages where it matters, because some instructors round and some don't.
- Blank is not zero. In the average calculator, work that isn't graded yet is left out, and the tool shows the range your final grade can land in.
- Honest limits. If a target needs more than 100% on the final, the tool says so and shows the best grade you can reach, instead of showing a number that looks fine.
Your numbers stay with you
The calculators work in your browser. The scores, weights and targets you type are used on your device to produce the result, and they are not sent to our servers. We don't ask for accounts or student names, and we don't need them.
That doesn't mean the site collects nothing at all. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary technical logs, and we receive the emails you send us. The privacy policy sets out exactly what we collect, why, and what rights you have.
Accuracy, and what we can't promise
Where the defaults come from
Our default scale follows the plus/minus conventions most commonly used in U.S. schools: A+ from 97%, A from 93%, A- from 90%, B+ from 87%, B from 83%, B- from 80%, C+ from 77%, C from 73%, C- from 70%, D+ from 67%, D from 63%, D- from 60%, and F below 60%. These are widespread conventions, not an official standard, and no single body sets them. We also offer a letter-only scale where 90% is an A, 80% a B and so on.
Where they might not match you
Your school or instructor may use different cutoffs, 7-point or 10-point scales, curves, dropped scores, extra credit or their own rounding rules. When they do, the percentage is the reliable part and the letter may differ. Please check your syllabus, and treat our results as estimates. The terms of service spell this out.
When we get something wrong
We will sometimes make mistakes. If you find one, tell us. We check the report against the source, correct what is confirmed, and update the page's review date. The contact page lists what to include so we can reproduce it quickly.
Independence and how the site is funded
The calculators are free to use, and the site doesn't show advertising at the moment. If that changes, the privacy policy will be updated before ads appear.
EZ Grader Calc is an independent website. It isn't affiliated with any school, exam board or gradebook product, or with other websites that happen to use a similar name.
